Hemp Seed Oil

Description:
Hemp seed oil is obtained from hemp plant, scientifically known as Cannabis sativa belongs to Cannabaceae family. Cannabis is an annual, dioecious, flowering herb. The leaves are palmately compound or digitate with serrate leaflets. The lower leaf pairs usually occur in an opposite leaf arrangement and upper leaf pairs in an alternate arrangement on the stem of a mature plant. All plants in the Cannabis genus can produce oil, but usually only industrial hemp is used to make hemp oil.

Extraction:
Hemp seed oil is acquired by pressing seeds of Cannabis sativa plant through cold pressed method. Hemp oil or hemp seed oil is a carrier oil obtained from industrial hemp plant but it is very low on Tetrahydocannabinol (THC). THC is a psychoative substance responsible for marijuana’s effects.

Properties:
Unrefined hemp oil is dark to clear light green in color with a nutty flavor while refined hemp oil is colorless and clear and has little flavor and lacks natural vitamins and antioxidants. Hemp seed oil is thick oil like olive oil

Composition:
Hemp seed oil is composed of essential fatty acids such as omega-6, omega-3, linoleic acid and linolenic acid, gamma linolenic acid, proteins and high in minerals.
